The Silicon Valley Down Syndrome Network (SVDSN) hosted their 12th Buddy Walk last October. If you aren't aware, October is Down Syndrome Awareness month. It is a time to celebrate people with Down syndrome and recognize all of their abilities instead of disabilities. One of the best ways to bring awareness to Down syndrome is by attending your local Buddy Walk. The Buddy Walk is a great place to meet other people and families who know someone with Down syndrome. It is an amazing place to share your story with others as well as to find people you can really connect with.
I've been going to the Buddy Walk in the Bay Area ever since I moved here, so this year will be my 3rd year. I was introduced to the Buddy Walk by a dear family friend who's daughter has Down syndrome. In high school and college, I worked with many kids and adults who had Down syndrome. If you've never met anyone with Down syndrome, I can tell you that they are some of the sweetest and most loving people I have ever met- hands down. This community is so welcoming! They make you feel like part of the family because you showed up and you care. It is such an incredible group of people. I truly can't say enough about how wonderful and kind everyone is.
After my first walk, I reached out because I wanted to do more with the SVDSN. I was so lucky to be able to partner with them last year to photograph their 12th Annual Buddy Walk and my 2nd walk. I am so thankful to say that I'm partnering with them again this Saturday for their 13th Buddy Walk! If you're attending SVDSN's Buddy Walk, come say hi, and I'll see you on Saturday!
